... is really just a restatement of the same ol' ethics I've been practicing all along. But this blog post got me thinking. I'm not a very popular blogger. I don't get invited to swanky publisher shindigs. I get all giddy when I'm invited to a poetry reading -- that was free, anyway.
Look up to your left. I have a new TypeList called "Swag" about, well, swag. It displaces a $5 ad that was keeping my son in flashing sneakers this year.
Hope it clarifies things. And even if it doesn't, at least I've stated the obvious.

Lip gloss? Damn - now I have to return the mercedes. What shade's best, "Random House Red" or "Penguin Pink"?

Great way to handle it without getting all uppity. I'm afraid, though, I don't understand the line "No advertised books have ever been reviewed on this site." Maybe you could make it clearer.
I like your approach and flashing sneakers are sooooo 2006 anyway.

Hey MR: It just means I haven't traded an ad for a positive review. I'll rewrite it when I get the chance. Thanks for pointing it out.

Okay, fixed. And for the record, the lip gloss was for a tie-in between Cover Girl and a celebrity book. HarperCollins Beige, I think. Delish, but the book was a bust and quickly hit the "to be donated" pile.

Where's MY free lip gloss?!?! Just kidding. I don't want free lip gloss. My daughters would just swipe it and smear the whole tube on themselves in one sitting. No, I'm in this biz for one reason: the groupies. Which would be the aforementioned lipgloss-smeared daughters.

Love it, Anne!

Hi Anne,
Thanks so much for clarifying your ethics policy in regards to authors! Sorry if I jumped to conclusions about you not wanting authors to send you copies personally--I had a panic attack.

Understandable! I've reworded the policy yet again to add "and authors" to clarify things.
