An interesting idea for a children's book, Anne. I'd not heard of the book before.

It just arrived last week, very unexpectedly. I'd never seen galleys or anything.

Wow. Sounds intense. But then, Walker is nothing if not intense.

My girls and I spent last year immersed in WWII, and it was a delicate balance ... conveying enough information that we could look at the time period without overwhelming and horrifying them. I have not yet allowed them to see actual pictures of the war ....

I am going to look for this one. We don't watch the evening news much, because of the frightening graphics of the war news, but the children can't help hearing about it anyway. I think it's one of those ugly, terrifying things that are better brought out in the air than covered up.
