200,000 More Thomas Trains
Recalled for Lead Contamination
CPSC Also Targets Garden Toys, Chairs, Puppet Theaters, Action Figures, Jewelry

Thomas_092507 As you can tell from the headline, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a slew of recalls today, reports the Los Angeles Times. I cringed at the Thomas and garden toy references since we have both, but after looking at the pictures, I think we’re safe this go-around.

The recall of 200,000 Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway Toys from Illinois-based RCA Corp. follows the June recall of 1.5 million trains. Included in the recall are a cargo car, “Toad” vehicle and green signal base. These toys were sold from March 2003 through September 2007. (See CPSC link for model numbers.)

Rake_recall_092607 The garden toys that caught my attention are 350,000 Happy Giddy Gardening Tools (and Children’s Sunny Patch Chairs sold by Target from August 2006 and August 2007. We have toys from the same set, but we left them in storage in California and they don’t exactly match those on the CPSC site. (We bought ours in 2005.)

The CPSC has recalled 10.9 million toys, bibs and play jewelry this year because of excessive lead contamination, reports the Times.

CPSC is also recalling for lead contamination:

Knights_092607 800 “Knights of the Sword” series from RC2, the same company that sells Thomas trains. They were sold in specialty stores from April 2004 to March 2006.

16,000 Children’s Toy Rakes sold at Jo-Anne Stores from January 2007 to September 2007.

Puppets_092607 10,000 Floor Puppet Theaters sold at gift and toy stores from June 2006 until August 2007. The manufacturer is Guidecraft Inc. of New Jersey.

Toby_092607 23,500 TOBY & ME Jewelry Sets by company of same name were sold at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, A.J. Wright, Cracker Barrel and Shopko stores from August 2006 through August 2007.

Necklaces_092607 850 Children’s Spinning Wheel-Metal Necklaces were sold by Rhode Island Novelty at a variety of family entertainment centers and discount stores.

Additional:
BCK Burke Company has recalled about 670 Single Post Swing Sets, sold from January 2000 through August 2007, because of a fall hazard.

Comments

My kids have some of everything. I cringe every time I hear about these recalls. Thus far we seem to have come through unscathed, but it does make me a little nervous.
