The Christmas Alphabet : Deluxe anniversary edition
by Robert Sabuda
A Christmas pop-up book that trumps all other pop-ups I’ve seen, "The Christmas Alphabet" is a stunning arrangement of 27 individual pop-ups – one for each letter of the alphabet plus a bonus introductory Christmas wreath. Each page contains two simple, pastel-colored “windows” labeled with a discreet letter of the alphabet. Open them, and be prepared for not just a pop-up, but intricate paper art that forms itself into 3-D images of each letter.
You’ve got your usual manger for “m” and angel for “a.” But author, illustrator and paper engineer Sabuda also treats us to two reindeer nose-to-nose for “k”iss, an elaborate blooming “p”oinsettia and two hugging snowmen for “f”riends.
This is a gorgeous book and something I plan on displaying on my coffee table for guests to peruse during holidays to come. (With clean hands of course – most of the paperwork is done in white, with accented colors in the background.) My children loved this, but truthfully it was the adults in the house that were most impressed with the craftsmanship, cleverness and sheer elegance of the book.
