I did something amazingly stupid, even for me, the queen of Stupid Mommy Tricks. I let my son open the package with the unbound galleys in it and then sternly warned him not to get the pages out of order.
It normally takes my son at least a second or two to ignore my instructions, but he set a new record. I don't think cosmic superstrings had their infinitessimal fraction of a second to vibrate before pages of this book were strewn willy nilly about the living room.
They've sat on a shelf ever since, waiting for me to re-arrange them and make sense of the story. I'm pretty sure this is about a hatchling who's taking his time to hatch, but then emerges somewhere in the middle of the book, but has his shell back on by the last page. Or not.
And he has three older sisters, who take turns one-upping him, or maybe they do it all at once, or go back and forth. Or something like that.
In any case, Shelly does things his way, in whatever order that happens to be. That's a good message, but I do wish children's books at least occasionally included page numbers.

You would think page numbers are automatic for parents teaching their kids how to count!!!!!
