What a noodge, that ferret Haha. Bea just minds her own business, hugging her blanket or numming a bagel. Haha wants in, so why doesn't he come right out and say so, huh?
Well, because that whole passive-aggressive schtick makes for a comical pair of board books. Jenkins shows you can conjure up a richly imagined character with a few penstrokes; Bogacki's artwork brings the hippo Bea down to toddler size.

When I kiss my wife, my dog runs toward us, barking and trying to get into the act.
Luckily for us, we didn't get a dog until well after our daughter was born.

I had a cat like that once. She'd jump on the back of the sofa and stick her face in between me and my boyfriend. One day he tossed her across the living room in frustration.
The relationship was pretty much doomed after that.
