MotherReader's asked everyone to pick their five best books and five runners-up for the year so far.
Alas, I haven't seen any books published after about June of this year due to my move. I asked publishers to hold off while I moved cross-country, and the result is a woefully incomplete list.
Without belaboring it further:
Five best books of 2006 so far
Learning to Fly by Sebastian Meschenmoser
Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Sharks and Other Sea Monsters by Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart
Team Moon: How 400,000 People Landed Apollo 11 on the Moon by Catherine Thimmesh
The Sound of Colors: A Journey of the Imagination by Jimmy Liao
Museum Trip by Barbara Lehman
Runners up
George and the Dragon by Chris Wormell
Mia's Story by Michael Foreman
The Princess and the Pea by Lauren Child, illustrated by Polly Borland
Dona Flor by Pat Mora and illustrated by Raul Colon
Waiting for Gregory by Kimberly Willis Holt and illustrated by Gabi Swiatkowska
Thanks for getting these up. I'll add them to the Master List. And it's okay if you're only halfway through the year in your reading. That's the fun of a "so far" list.

A single correction, since I'm annoying like that. Dona Flor came out in 2005.

That's okay, my husband pointed out that "George and the Dragon" came out in 2005 too.
I'm always late to everything, why should this be any different?
