Sometimes I'm not sure who these books are written for, because I wouldn't want to give this to my kids either - and they're seven and ten. I'll look at it first, certainly, but it's just so...sad.

It's hard to imagine there are picture-book-age children out there who can handle a story--especially a true one--that touches on such widespread death and destruction. If my folks had read it to me I'd have been out in the backyard building an ark, or at least not sleeping well for a while.
