Y'know how somebody'll email and say, "Hey, check out my blog" or "Review my book" and you'll think, "Yeah, like I'm not busy enough, thanks."
Maybe the blog is so deadly dull, you don't know how to put them down gently. Or the book is self-published and you think rabbits hopping across a keypad could randomly type out a better story.
But this is different. After giving Jorge Goyco my standard "Yeah, good luck with that," I actually made time to read his blog. And I had to yell at my son to leave me alone! These stories are too good for you! So there!
Jorge's jotting down the bedtime stories he makes up for his kids and blogging them. And he's great. I've only managed to get through a handful without those pesky kids dragging me away.
They're mostly fables, but don't necessarily have happy endings, they're not cliched, and they're contemporary and relevant -- and wry -- without feeling heavy handed. There's some real potential for picture books in some of them too.
I've made you wait for the link. Here it is.
I love it. Thanks for sharing.
