Today we meet Pam Coughlan, organizer for the Fiction Picture Books category:
I am the mother of two girls, ages nine and twelve, and a voracious
reader. Hence the Mother and Reader part of my blog name. At
MotherReader, I review children's literature from board books to Young
Adult, but my heart is in picture books.
Along with my occasional forays into national politics, I participate in many of the community aspects of blogging in kids lit, including the Carnivals of Children's Literature, The Edge of the Forest, Poetry Friday, and my own 48 Hour Book Challenge. I'm also the founder and, let's say, president of the tongue-in-cheek organization, Bloggers Against Celebrity Authors (BACA), now its own blog at www.BACAoff.com.
In my real life I work part-time job as a children's library assistant (a children's librarian without the master's degree or chance of promotion) in a public library. I'm also a movie lover, Girl Scout leader, Northern Virginian, and humor aficionado.
Rock on, Pam!

Hey Pam
I gotta say that's a very good picture of you. Kudos to the photographer.
When do you sleep?

I'd like to nominate Hansel and Gretel by Cynthia Rylant and Jen Corace. The retelling is traditional but distinct and Corace's artwork is lovely.

I'd like to nominate 'Ocean Wide, Ocean Deep,' one of those much maligned 'quiet' picturebooks that I find to be such a refuge in these noisy, busy modern times. (What's wrong with encouraging children to appreciate the quiet and thoughtful?) It's set in 19th century Cape Cod and is illustrated by first-timer Raul Allen, a classically-trained Spanish painter who mixes collage with old-master technique in a style that's both fresh and absolutely gorgeous.

I would like to nominate "Sugar Plum Fairy" illustrated by Sarah Davis - published by New Frontiers it very cleverly and beautifully uses a lively children's story to introduce children to the beautiful music of the Nutcracker Suite - http://shop.newfrontier.com.au/shop/products/detail.html?Product__product_id=161&Category__category_id=19

I would like to nominate "Gracie's Gallery: A Magic Mirror Book" by Kelly M. Houle. It is a picture book that has hidden pictures that appear in the reflection of a curved mirror built into the book.

I would like to nominate, “Remember When…” by Patz Fowle for a Cybils Award for the Fiction Picture Books category. As a parent and children’s book enthusiast, I highly recommend this beautifully written and whimsically illustrated poetic tale because it delights, inspires, and touches your heart…in all the right places.

I would like to nominate Willow by Rosemarie Brennan and Denise Brennan~Nelson with illustrations by Cyd Moore. This charming, thought provoking story has become an all time favorite of mine. It has encouraged my timid little daughter to express herself more freely...I am very grateful for that.

Hi, Pam,
I found my book, A Very Improbable Story, mentioned on google. I found it on the replies among the call for Cybil nominations, but when I checked the nomination list, it wasn't there. Was it overlooked somehow?
